Common Issues Faced

Session Start Error

  1. If you are facing an error as shown in the image below "Session Start Error - SEB failed to start a new session! Please consult the log files for more information."  
    1. Click on the “OK” button in the error message shown.
    2. Restart the test by clicking on the “Start Test” button on the test page.
    3. If the problem still persists, please connect with your exam admin, and ask them to help you.

SEB Locked

  1. If you see a red screen with the "User Switch Locked SEB" message, please connect with your exam admin,and ask them to unlock the Safe Exam Browser. SEB Locked

Exam Locked

  1. If you see a red screen with the "Re-Opening Locked Exam" message, please connect with your exam admin, and ask them to unlock the Safe Exam Browser.Exam Locked

Any other Red Screen

  1. If you see a red screen with any other message, please connect with your exam admin, and ask them to unlock the Safe Exam Browser.

Welcome to Pod

  1. If you see the "Welcome to Pod!" screen, please connect with your exam admin, and ask them to help you.

Safe Exam Browser becomes Unresponsive

  1. If the Safe Exam Browser becomes unresponsive or a 404 page, login page, etc., please connect with your exam admin, and ask them to help you.

Web Page Unresponsive

  1. If your screen freezes while using the SEB application, please connect with your exam admin, and ask them to help you.


Common Issues Faced on Windows

Session Start Error due to remoting_host.exe

  1. If you face an issue as shown in the below image, please follow the steps mentioned below.

  1. Open Chrome Browser.
  2. Click on the Extensions icon on the top right and search for the Chrome Remote Desktop in the list.

  1. Double-click and open it.
  2. Navigate to the delete icon under “this device” and click “Disable remote connections”. Disable remote connections
  1. Confirm the action by clicking on the “Yes” button.

  1. Restart the test on the assessment page by clicking on the “Start Test”.

Safe Exam Browser does not detect any displays

  1. On some systems, while starting the test, Safe Exam Browser (SEB) fails to start with an error similar to the one present below.

  2. In this scenario, follow the below steps :
    1. First, restart the system and try again. If this doesn't fix the problem, continue to the next step.
    2. Rebuilding the WMI Repository: See Rebuilding WMI Repository.
    3. If both of these don't work, please try using another system.

Running Application Detected

  1. If Safe Exam Browser detects any forbidden applications running, it will ask you to terminate the applications automatically.

  2. Click on the "Yes" button to continue launching Safe Exam Browser after the termination of running applications. Running Application Detected

Network Issues

  • If you want to change the Wi-Fi network inside Safe Exam Browser due to internet issues, follow the below steps

    • Navigate to the bottom right to the Wi-Fi icon and click on it.

    • Select the network from the network list shown to you. Network Issues

Configuration Error

  1. If you face an error like below while launching the SEB application or starting the assessment, it must be due to an unstable internet connection, try changing your network.Configuration Error

Common Issues Faced on macOS

Permissions Required for Web Applications

  1. Safe Exam Browser requires your system's Camera & Microphone access. If permissions are not already provided it'll prompt an error message for setting system preferences. In this scenario, follow the given steps:
